Whenever we are using our hard earned cash back into our home our first thought is, “Is this a good investment?” Updating your home in any way helps maintain or increase the value of your home. Floors, in particular are often overlooked but they are a sound way to reinvest in your home effectively.
Updating your garage floor, basement floor, patio or pool deck with a polyaspartic coating will also undoubtedly add value to your home.
1. It’s substantially less expensive than replacing your (cracked) concrete. 2. It is extremely durable and will last decades! 3. It is resistant to scratching, spills and stains. 4. It’s very easy to clean.
What are the best options for concrete coatings?
The properly prepared concrete coating becomes an extension of their living space! A polyaspartic coating will take a drab, cracked concrete floor and turn it into an area that’s the envy of the neighborhood.
Fortress Floors KC can Expand your living space in ONE DAY! We can upgrade your pool deck, patio, basement or garage!
- UV resistant: Because polyaspartic coatings handle ultraviolet light better than epoxy, they retain color better. This makes it a great choice for indoors or out.
- No hot tire pickup: If you have low-quality epoxy on your concrete substrate when you park a car with hot tires on it, the epoxy will soften and cling to the tires as they cool. Polyaspartic will not cling to the tires! The bond is too great with the base coat.
Polyaspartic coatings provide the best industrial-grade protection for your floor. Our floors are 4x stronger than epoxy, UV Resistant and the most heat-resistant option.
What base coat is the best? If you search online you will get three separate answers so I will just lay out my opinion. I think you will understand why we primarily use a polyuria base coat.
There are three main base coats with a polyaspartic topcoat. 1. Polyurea. 2. Polyaspartic 3. Epoxy. We have chosen to primarily use a polyurea because it has the best adhesion over time, and it has the highest strength and has the flexibility to move with small variations in the concrete due to seasonal changes.
Polyaspartic BASE COAT (which we think is the second best) reacts with lime in concrete and can create pealing. It is very fast curing which can inhibit it from “soaking into” the concrete for maximum adhesion. It has a tendency due to its thin mil system to hold chips upright instead of lying down making a complete coverage less likely.
Epoxy loses adhesion over time. It will amber over time (it’s not UV stable) and it doesn’t have the flexibility to move with the subtle changes in concrete. Due to it’s rigidity, it’s not as impact resistant as polyurea or polyaspartic.
Beautification
The two main reasons a new floor coating improves home value is the aesthetic benefit and upgrade in quality to the existing cracked concrete. A garage, pool deck, patio or basement floor with a high gloss polyaspartic coating is one of the most inexpensive high end finishes you can do to upgrade your home. There are many color schemes for you to choose from so you’ll have no trouble finding an option that best suits you.
A Polyaspartic Coating is 4x Stronger than Epoxy
A polyaspartic floor coating helps prevent cracks and chips that bring your home’s value down while also offering resistance to tire marks and chemical corrosion. Fortress Floors KC can protect your floor from:
- Paint
- Oil
- Gasoline
- Water
- Salt
- Bleach
- And much more
It’s crucial to have a professional handle the coating to ensure the floor is level and durable against heat, weight, foot traffic, chemicals, sunlight and doesn’t have an unusual amount of moisture in the concrete (it can be effectively managed by a professional). When correctly resurfaced, your garage floor will be resilient against unsightly stains and blemishes, which makes it more attractive to potential buyers.
Safety
If you spend a lot of time in your garage working or relaxing, it’s important to keep the environment safe for you, your family, and your guests. When concrete gets wet, it becomes very slippery, significantly increasing the chances of you or someone in your home slipping and injuring themselves. Falling on concrete can result in more severe injuries than on other flooring surfaces since it offers no cushion and absorbs no impact. Our polyaspartic floors have “grit” so it is much less slippery than wet concrete and if the area we are treating is prone to being wet (i.e. pool deck), we have a product we can add to make it even more slip resistant.
Polyaspartic floor coatings are easy to clean and eliminate the hazard of inhaling silica (concrete) dust. Silica dust is harmful when inhaled into your lungs. As it is 100 times smaller than a grain of sand, you can be breathing it in without knowing.
Our floors are 100% antibacterial/antimicrobial
