What we install
Species we work with
Red oak and white oak (the KC classics), maple, hickory, and walnut. Each species has a different grain, hardness profile, and stain behavior. We'll walk you through which makes sense for your space, traffic level, and look.
Solid vs. engineered hardwood
Solid hardwood is milled from a single plank. It can be sanded and refinished multiple times — a long-term investment. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer over a stable plywood core, which makes it more dimensionally stable in humid or temperature-variable spots like KC basements or over slab-on-grade construction. We install both. Which one's right depends on your subfloor, location in the home, and how long you want it to last.
Site-finished vs. pre-finished
Site-finished hardwood is installed raw and sanded, stained, and finished in your home — seamless look, fully custom color. Pre-finished planks arrive with the finish already applied — faster turnaround, less time with the space out of commission. Both have their place; we'll match the right approach to your project.
Remodels and removal
If you're replacing carpet, vinyl, or old hardwood, we handle removal and disposal as part of the scope. Transitions at doorways, thresholds, and stair landings get planned up front so nothing looks like an afterthought.
New construction
We coordinate directly with builders and GCs to install at the right stage of construction, work cleanly on active job sites, and deliver finished floors that are protected for final walkthroughs.
Our installation process
Subfloor inspection.
1
Flatness, moisture levels, squeaks, soft spots — all checked and addressed before a single plank goes down.
Wood acclimation.
2
Hardwood needs time to adjust to your home's temperature and humidity. Skipping this step is the #1 cause of post-install gapping and cupping. We don't skip it.
Precise installation.
3
Nail-down, glue-down, or floating — depending on species, subfloor, and layout. Layout lines, seam staggering, and transitions are planned before we open a box.
Site finishing (if applicable)
4
For site-finished wood, we sand, stain, and seal in place after the install.
Final walkthrough.
5
We review transitions, trim, and cure timeline with you before we call the job complete.
How we price hardwood installation
Installation pricing depends on product selection, subfloor condition, and layout — which is why we walk the space with you before putting a number to paper.
Every estimate we hand you is itemized: labor, material, subfloor prep, removal of existing flooring, and any finish work are listed as separate line items. No lumped-together numbers, no "miscellaneous" charges.
Factors that move the number:
Species and grade — exotic species and select grades carry higher material costs
Solid vs. engineered construction
Subfloor prep — leveling, moisture mitigation, or structural repair adds scope
Removal and disposal of existing flooring
Layout complexity — diagonals, borders, and herringbone patterns require more time and material
Site-finished vs. pre-finished product
What you get with the quote:
