Replacing carpet with luxury vinyl plank
Removing carpet changes more than the surface you walk on. We check the floor underneath, adjoining floor heights, door clearances and perimeter trim before defining the installation.
Your estimate should account for carpet, pad, tack strips and staple removal where needed, along with disposal and subfloor preparation. We also agree on who moves furniture and completes the trim.

Choosing LVP for your home, pets and everyday traffic
Bring samples into the room and compare them beside your cabinets, trim and adjoining floors. Look in daylight and evening lighting. Consider the grain and pattern across a whole room as well as the color of one plank.
We discuss plank width, texture, wear layer, core construction and the installation system. Overall thickness alone does not tell you whether a product is the right choice.
With pets or busy family spaces, think about traction, cleanup and how the floor shows hair and grit. Furniture pads and regular cleaning still matter; no floor is scratch-proof.

Can LVP go over concrete, tile or an uneven floor?
The existing surface and selected product determine the answer. We check the condition beneath the new flooring and how the finished height will affect doors, appliances and adjoining rooms.
Concrete and basement floors
We assess slab condition and moisture requirements. Vapor protection and preparation follow the selected flooring’s installation instructions.
Waterproof planks do not fix basement leaks. The water source needs to be addressed, and the concrete must meet the flooring system’s requirements before installation.
Uneven floors and existing tile
Floating LVP still needs a suitable surface. Dips, high spots, loose material and other defects must be assessed against the product’s flatness requirements.
Tile may need removal or preparation depending on its condition, bond, grout joints and the resulting floor height.
Plan the connections at doorways, tile and stairs
How the new floor meets bathroom tile, carpet, hardwood and exterior doorways should be planned before installation. Differences in height influence which transition profile is needed.
A coordinating T-molding, reducer or another compatible profile can finish the connection. Trim must also allow the movement required by a floating floor.
Stairs need a separate tread and nosing plan. Include landings and exposed ends when discussing the work, rather than assuming they are covered by the flat-floor price.

Complete the included removal and subfloor work. Acclimation, temperature, underlayment and vapor protection follow the selected product’s requirements.

Lay out and install
Plan plank direction and joint spacing, then install using the specified method and required movement clearances.

Finish trim and transitions
Complete the included perimeter trim, doorway profiles and connections to adjoining floors.

Walk through the finished floor
Review the work together and explain cleaning, furniture protection and any waiting periods before normal use.
Keep your new floor looking good
Remove grit regularly, clean spills promptly and use a cleaner approved for your flooring. Protect furniture feet and lift heavy items instead of dragging them.
LVP cannot be sanded and refinished like suitable hardwood. Keep spare planks from the installation in case a damaged section needs replacement later.
Check the product’s care instructions before using steam cleaners, adding rugs or moving heavy furniture onto the floor.
Questions before installing LVP
How long does LVP installation take?
Room size, removal, subfloor preparation, layout and trim affect the schedule. We explain the expected sequence after assessing the project, including material readiness and any required waiting periods.
Can I stay home during installation?
Often, but access depends on the rooms involved. Tell us if the work affects your kitchen, only bathroom access or main entrance. We can discuss furniture staging, pets and which areas need to remain clear.
Should I buy the flooring before getting an estimate?
Send the product name, link or specification sheet first. We can review suitability, matching trim and preparation requirements before you commit to materials. Include installation instructions and information about any attached pad.
Is floating or glue-down LVP better?
It depends on the product, subfloor and intended use. Floating flooring relies on its locking system and movement clearances. Glue-down flooring needs compatible adhesive and surface preparation. We discuss the method as part of product selection.
Does LVP need extra underlayment?
Not automatically. Some products have attached padding, and another layer may be unsuitable. Underlayment and vapor protection serve different purposes. The flooring manufacturer’s instructions determine what is needed.
Can LVP run continuously through several rooms?
Some layouts allow it; others need transition breaks. Room dimensions, fixed objects, doorways and the product’s installation limits determine the layout. We plan those details before installation.
Do you also install laminate flooring?
Yes. We also install laminate. Laminate and LVP have different construction and installation requirements, so send the product details when requesting an estimate.

Can LVP go over the existing floor?
Sometimes, but that decision depends on the existing material, its condition and the new product's installation requirements. Adding another layer also changes floor height at doors, appliances and adjoining rooms.
Tell us what is there now and whether multiple flooring layers are present. We assess whether removal or additional preparation belongs in the estimate.
What needs to happen before the crew arrives?
Agree on who moves furniture, handles appliances and clears the installation area. Identify any kitchen, bathroom or walkway you need to keep accessible.
Product availability, removal, subfloor work and the installation method affect the schedule. Confirm those details before coordinating movers or other trades.
