Hardwood Floor Installation in Kansas City

Solid, engineered and prefinished hardwood installation for Kansas City homes. Replace carpet, extend existing wood or start fresh, with matching, preparation and finishing included in the plan.

Solid, engineered and prefinished hardwood installation

Replace carpet, extend an existing wood floor or install hardwood throughout a remodel. Fortress Floors KC helps Kansas City homeowners choose the flooring and plan how it will connect with the rest of the home.

Our family-run company is based in Lenexa. We review the subfloor, moisture conditions, board dimensions, finishing and transitions before defining the estimate.

If you already have a flooring product in mind, send its name or a link before ordering. Material choice and installation method need to work together.

Which hardwood flooring fits your project?

Solid and engineered describe board construction. Prefinished and unfinished describe when the finish is applied. Both solid and engineered flooring can be factory-finished.

Solid hardwood installation

Solid boards are wood through their full thickness. They can often be refinished in the future, depending on condition and the usable wood remaining above the tongue.

The installation location, subfloor and moisture conditions determine suitability and fastening method.

Engineered hardwood installation

Engineered hardwood has a real wood surface over a layered core. Certain products can suit concrete slabs or below-grade rooms when their requirements are met.

It is not waterproof. Compare the wear layer, approved installation method and future refinishing options before buying.

Prefinished hardwood installation

Factory-finished boards reduce sanding and finishing work inside the home. Compare available colors, sheen, edge profiles and coordinating trim.

A shorter finishing phase does not eliminate removal, subfloor preparation or adhesive waiting periods where applicable.

Unfinished and wide-plank hardwood

Unfinished wood is installed, sanded and finished in your home, allowing stain samples and coordinated finishing with suitable existing hardwood.

For wide-plank flooring, discuss board construction, moisture requirements and the manufacturer’s fastening or adhesive instructions before selecting the product.

Compare hardwood, engineered wood, LVP and laminate if you are still deciding on the material.

Replace carpet and match your existing hardwood

Adding wood to a carpeted room takes more than finding a similar stain. We compare species, width, thickness, grade, grain and the existing finish.

Where suitable, new boards can be laced or woven into the existing floor. Sanding and finishing the connected area together can help blend color and sheen. A planned transition may be more practical when matching material is unavailable or the existing floor cannot be sanded.

Plan the surface beneath the new floor

Removal can reveal loose material, uneven areas or damage that needs attention. We assess flatness, moisture and soundness against the flooring’s installation requirements.

Floor height also affects door clearances, tile connections, stair landings and trim. Agree on how additional preparation discovered after removal will be discussed and approved.

Our installation process

  1. Assess and define the scope

Measure the rooms and review removal, subfloor conditions, matching, trim and stair connections.

  2. Confirm product readiness

Check the home, subfloor and wood against the selected product’s requirements. Acclimation is based on conditions, not simply a fixed number of days.

  3. Prepare and install

Complete agreed preparation and install using the specified nail-down, glue-down or floating method, with planned direction, joints and clearances.

  4. Finish and review

Complete site finishing where included, along with trim and transitions. Explain cleaning, protection and return-to-use instructions.

What does hardwood installation pricing include?

Compare complete installed scopes rather than a material price with an installation price. Product choice, removal, preparation, matching and finishing all affect the total.

Before you schedule

Can you install hardwood in just one room?

Yes. We still plan board direction, floor height, matching and the connection to adjoining rooms. If lacing is involved, discuss how far sanding and finishing should extend.

Can hardwood go over concrete?

Some engineered products can, using an approved installation method. Slab moisture, surface condition and the product’s requirements determine suitability.

Do adjoining hardwood floors need refinishing?

Not always. Finishing connected unfinished wood together may improve consistency. Existing finish, condition and the intended appearance determine the recommended scope.

How long does installation take?

Removal, preparation, layout and any site finishing affect the schedule. We discuss material readiness and return-to-use timing before scheduling the work.

New hardwood made to belong with the home

Installation is often only one part of the job. Existing wood, new boards, transitions, and finish choices all need to work together.

5 out of 5 stars Google review
“They refinished the existing floors in our new home, pulled up carpet in two rooms to restore the wood underneath, and even replaced the tile in the kitchen with beautiful wood floors. The floors are blended beautifully throughout my home.”

“We used Fortress Floors KC to install new hardwood flooring in our home. The new flooring is an extension of a previous floor. Fortress Floors KC matched the old floor, so you can’t see where the old floor stops and the new one starts. They did a great job, worked quickly, finished on time, and charged a good price. Highly recommended.”
